Searching for Scientifically Sound Treatment
While you may not fully understand or even care about the science behind many of the treatments we offer at Northern Illinois Recovery Center, you do want to choose the right treatment that is going to help you overcome your chemical dependency. Therefore, selecting a treatment that is backed by science is a great place to start.
So, what is evidence based addiction recovery practice? Evidence based practice prescribes to a specific set of actions or procedures based on their previous success or particular effects. The success of a specific treatment has a bearing on whether a therapist uses it for an individual or a group therapy.
Some examples of treatments we utilize at Northern Illinois Recovery Center that have proven success include:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Individual and group therapy
- Family therapy
- Dual diagnosis therapy
- Relapse prevention
- Peer support
Each of these types of treatment has helped multiple clients in the past. We have both researched and observed the success rate of evidence based therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or dual diagnosis therapy. We know they work because we have seen the results in our clients.
Evidence Based Does Not Guarantee Success
People often ask us why so many kinds of treatment exist for alcohol or drug addiction. We give our clients multiple options to personalize a therapy based on an individual’s specific needs. No matter how much science supports a certain therapeutic technique or recovery treatment, it is not 100% effective in treating everyone for addiction.
Therefore, we give you choices so that we can match the right treatment with your needs. This increases your chances of long-term success. With that in mind, it is essential to note that no treatment guarantees that you will experience a full recovery from drugs or alcohol. Why? Because a lot of it depends on your willingness to stop your substance abuse issue.
We can provide the facilities, resources, support groups, treatment specials, and evidence-based treatment backed by years of research. However, the most critical element in your success is your desire to quit drinking or taking drugs. Once you decide that you want to end your addiction, you are already on the road to recovery.
