Understanding Meth Addiction Treatment
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that can cause short and long-term damage to users’ health. The effects of using meth include:
- Euphoria
- Increased energy
- Irregular heartbeat
- Weight loss
- High blood pressure
- Convulsions
Because it is so addictive, overdoses are common with methamphetamine use. All meth addiction treatment programs must start with medically supervised detox. The next step will be a comprehensive treatment program that will aid in recovery and give the tools necessary to maintain long-term sobriety.
Outpatient Treatment for Meth Addiction
After medically supervised detox, outpatient treatment is a treatment option for people working toward meth recovery. Outpatient rehab provides similar therapy and support as an inpatient treatment center but allows the person to maintain independence. Outpatient care lets people enjoy the support of their families and continue to work or attend school. It allows them to practice sobriety in the real world. Outpatient treatment for meth works well when people have a stable place to live and can avoid others who use meth. It is not a good option for people who still actively use meth or do not support the community. Starting treatment in an outpatient program can determine whether the person is committed to sobriety or whether they need a higher level of care.
