With September here, people all across the country will be taking some time to recognize National Recovery Month. This special month honors those who are in drug addiction recovery or alcohol addiction recovery. It also is a time to uplift those who are still on the journey or thinking about getting on the pathway to sobriety, as well as spread awareness to loved ones and caregivers. There are different ways you can participate in National Recovery Month, but here are five ways to celebrate the occasion.
Chances are, you know someone who is affected by drug abuse. Whether the person is the user or they have a family member who is doesn’t matter. You can still show support to either one because dealing with drug addiction recovery is painful for everyone.
As you show your support during recovery month, you will be encouraging someone to stay on track.
Provide A Space For Stories
People in recovery have a story. Whether they’ve just started the journey or have been on it for a while, their story is powerful and can help others. Therefore, they need a place and avenue to share their stories. This empowers people to continue on the pathway of healing.
If you have a business, or even if you don’t, you can take part in educating others about drug addiction and alcohol addiction recovery. By educating the public, you will help increase awareness. You can create information sheets, bookmarks, or flyers about addiction to provide to people. And if you do have a business, you can put up a poster with statistics about drug addiction.
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) offers information about this topic if you’re not sure where to begin.
Adopt The Theme
Every year, SAMHSA adopts a theme. You could implement the theme into your other activities, handouts, or business activities. If you own a business, you can use the theme there.
This year the theme title is, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Connections.” This theme is ideal for reminding people in recovery that they have those who support them. They are not alone. Also, during this year’s theme, you can highlight the victories and also talk about the things we all wish we had done differently in life. This enforces those connections and helps others not feel alone.
Treatment centers can celebrate by providing excellent services for those in need. Whether the person needs intensive services or addiction therapy services, having a place that is trustworthy and reputable will go long. A comprehensive treatment center will offer a range of services such as:
- Partial hospitalization treatment program
- Medication-assisted treatment program
- Intensive outpatient treatment program
- Sober living treatment program
- Drug rehab treatment program
Putting a spotlight on these services will be a way to celebrate National Recovery Month 2020.
